ISLAMABAD: The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Rear-Admiral Fred Senevirathne, met with Professor Dr. Amir Qayyum and faculty members of the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) in Islamabad. The High Commissioner warmly welcomed the CUST delegation and briefed them on Sri Lanka’s education system as well as the new government’s vision for future educational development.
Highlighting the initiatives of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Rear-Admiral Senevirathne shared details of a new Scholarship Programme aimed at exceptional G.C.E. Advanced Level achievers. The programme will enable Sri Lankan students to pursue Bachelor’s degrees at internationally ranked foreign universities, including those in Pakistan.
Professor Dr. Amir Qayyum expressed gratitude to the High Commissioner for the warm reception and lauded Sri Lanka’s efforts to expand educational opportunities. He noted the existing collaboration between CUST and Sri Lankan universities, emphasizing the importance of scholarships and academic exchange programmes at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels.
The High Commissioner appreciated CUST University for extending scholarship opportunities to Sri Lankan students, recognizing the initiative as a valuable contribution toward strengthening educational ties between the two countries.
A Christy Ruban, Minister of the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad, was also present during the meeting.
